Wines and Vineyards

Provence has been a vine-growing area for hundreds of years, with the area said to be "blessed by the gods" due to the superb quality of the wines produced.

A tour of the Cote de Provence wine road provides a tremendous field of discovery for connoisseurs and lovers of the good life.  A tour of the vineyards provides an opportunity to take in some of the most beautiful parts of the region and stop off at a number of prestigious locations.

Wine cellars which are open for free tasting are advertised on roadside signs as “degustation”, and most cellars sell wine by the bottle. Open hours are often all day, from around 9 am to 6 or 7 pm in the summer.

Some of the more popular wines of the region include :

Côtes de Provence -  www.cotes-de-provence.com
The principle appellation (name) of the region, Côtes de Provence stretches from beside Marseilles, in the Bouches-du-Rhône and across central and southern Var to the Alpes-Maritimes.

Bandol - www.vins-de-bandol.com
Bandol is on the Mediterranean coast west of Toulon, and the vineyards stretch along the sunny southern hillsides, on rocky limestone soil.
The rosé, produced mainly for the strong local demand. It is aged a minimum of 8 months in wood (unique for a rosé), giving the wine an orange coloring.
The red Bandol is made from Mourvèdre grape and is aged a minimum of 18 months in oaken foudres, producing a full, round, rich wine that is good for immediate consumption and ages well.

Golfing - www.golfparexcellence.com

With 21 courses and easy access to an equivalent number in the neighbouring Var region, the Côte d'Azur is now a major attraction for the millions of golfers who travel every year to indulge in their favourite sport.

The Côte d'Azur has a wide variety of different courses, suited to players of all levels, from introductory courses designed for learning all the way up to the most prestigious international courses such as Mougins, Cannes Mandelieu or Monte Carlo.

The region also offers a unique variety of landscapes, from seaside courses such as the Cannes Mandelieu Old Course to the peaks of the Mercantour natural park with the Golf d'Isola 2000, the highest 18-hole course in Europe, via the courses with the very Provençal charm of the Grasse Region.

The Provence Golf Pass provides access to 13 golf courses and includes five green fees.
The closest golf course to the apartment is the exclusive Royal Mougins course, home of the Cannes Open.
